Their story

Pius IV, born Giovanni Angelo Medici in Milan on April 9, 1499, rose to prominence through dedicated service and intellectual acumen. Though of the House of Medici, his lineage was a distinct branch from the Florentine grand dukes. His early career saw him hold various important ecclesiastical and administrative offices, including the governorship of Siena, where he demonstrated a judicious nature. Elevated to the papacy in 1559, Pius IV is widely remembered for reconvening and concluding the Council of Trent, a pivotal moment in the Catholic Reformation. His papacy focused on implementing its decrees and fostering reconciliation within Christendom. He passed away in Rome on December 9, 1565.
